I am due for an oil change on a new 1800. What kind should I use? The owner's manual says any SG or higher except one labeled energy conserving, they suggest a 10w-30.DOT 4 and DOT 3 are both glycol-based brake fluid formulations, the main difference being the performance characteristics, particularly how it works when hot, which is why Honda specifies DOT 4 for the VTX instead of the DOT 3 you might run in your car- the brakes get hotter. Vinish. Virtually any brand of 10w fork oil will be fine. You don't need an expensive type. Cheap Wallyworld 10w fork oil is fine. Be aware that a special tool is needed to disassemble the left fork on an 1800. Jun 6, 2006 · There is no filter specific for synthetic oil. There are, however, filters with better filtering media vs. paper found in most filters. Mobil 1 M1-110 is one of them. Bosch 3323 is another. Both filters are made by Champion Labs and have the new media. Both are fine for the 1300. Bosch is about $6...M1 is around $11. Do this with the bike on its side stand on level pavement, garage floor, etc. Put a pan under the final drive, remove both the oil filler cap and the oil drain bolt. The oil drain bolt is the lower of the two. Drain completely, put the drain bolt and washer back and tighten it. The back cyclinder was 180 PSI the front 150 psi. The noise seems to be coming from the rear. The manual says spec compression is 171psi @ 300prm.
