I remember someone talking about a lock-up converter kit being made for retrofit to the TH-400 trans. I think it works using a version of the variable-pitch kits for the TH-400 trans. Might want to ask the folks at PAE about it. And as you said, the TH400 doesn't have a lockup torque converter. My TH400 was the short tailshaft model and the OD bolted onto that without issues. Hey guys, looking for a Gear vendors over drive set up to add to my 67 GS. A full set up would be nice or odds an ends to piece one set together.You'd use the same Tcase and adapter. 4L80-E is very similar to a Th400. In fact they do share some of the same internal parts. Splines are the same, gear ratios are the same except the 80-E has the OD, the same 6 bolt pattern extension or tailshaft housing etc. ….

If mpg is really important to you, go with combo #2.
