Picked one up for 500$ well used but well loved. It's a 357, blued 5 inch adjustable rear sight with 5 digit serial number. It was labeled 357 on the tag because a new guy didn't know what it was. Guy behind the counter was re-doing the tag when I asked to see it. It was made in Monson, Mass and has a 6" barrel, serial number is 86xxx. I believe it was purchased in the early 1980s but not sure, might have been manufactured in the late 1970s?I had a very similar thing happen to me, purchased a stainless Monson Model 40 that ended up being an ETG serial number 36. Sometime later bought a Monson 7445 did not know it and it ended up being a IHSMA serial number 36. It is all pretty weird, never know they would be special just looking for two Stainless Super Mags!

In 1962 the serial number was in the C5xxxxx or C6xxxxx range.
