Resulting in using the small screwdriver to start the downward movement of the slide cover. The ONLY REAL serial number on a GLOCK is located on the frame/receiver. The numbers on the barrel and slide are useless when identifying a GLOCK by serial number. The base plate will slide forward and disengage from the magazine. Remove the tool and slowly slide the base plate off of the magazine, taking care to maintain control of the insert and spring. I just did this with my Gen 3 G26. Removed the slide from my glock for the very first time without having to pull the trigger first. Press the button in a good ways, maybe all the way with the glock tool. Squeeze very hard on the sides of the mag body just above the base plate. Use the still inserted Glock tool to pull, levering the base plate off the end of the mag body. The 1st time, until you figure it out is very difficult.
