You do not need gears. 4.88 with 35s means a shorter final drive ratio than stock. 4.88 with 37s means a longer final drive ration than stock. Its really just personal preference. You shouldnt consider gears unless you are considering 37" tires. I believe that you will get better mpg with 35s and stock gears vs 35s and 4.88.Toyota Tundra on 35s.
